Secret server status bypass:

Typing this code at the pre-login screen (first screen) after hitting
the Play button: [up] [down] [left] [right] [up] [up] [down] [down] 
will let you play the game even when the server is down/is set to Busy.

This code is can also be found on the official website of the game in 
the support section. Bear in mind that the server is Busy for a reason,
so be gentlemanly about it.

Force Server Connection:

If you hit the Play button and you notice that the server is down or set 
to "Busy," you can force a connection anyway by entering the following key
sequence: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN. 
You may still experience issues once you connect, though, since the server
likely didn't offer that notice on a whim.

Play the Game When the Server Is Down:
At the very first screen, before the login screen, enter this code: 
UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN. 
You can now play the game when the server is down or busy.
